Volunteers are an important part of the Central Alberta Humane Society. We need volunteers to help with our events and also to assist with everyday operations.
All of the volunteer positions we have are important to us and especially to the animals. It is critical for the animals to have the love, affection, exercise, and socialization they deserve.
Thank you for everything you do for our animals and our community! Volunteers like you genuinely change the world, and we are so grateful.
If you’d like to make a big impact on homeless animals in central Alberta, consider becoming a foster family. The ability to provide a temporary home to a shelter animal in need is an immensely rewarding experience. You are providing an animal the knowledge and love it needs to survive as you lead them over the bridge to their forever home.
By volunteering at the Central Alberta Humane Society, you can add to the quality of animals’ lives and enhance the quality of your life too! As the largest animal welfare organization in central Alberta, we rely on the assistance of volunteers to care for the many animals that are in our care. Our beautiful new center allows us to provide a wonderful environment for our guest pets and the volunteers who interact with them.
We also require volunteers to help us with events both on and off-site, food bank transportation, and emergency planning.
To gain access to our Volunteer Application, simply:
Please note: Youth & Assisted Volunteers apply using a separate form. Please see our programs below for further details on how to apply for our Youth and Assisted Volunteer Programs.
Cat cuddling is a way for volunteers to come in and enrich our cats/kittens in shelter. Enrichment includes brushing, playing, petting, and giving them treats. This is a great opportunity for our cats in shelter to become confident with people and gain the skills that will help them adjust to their furever homes! Pocket Pets are small animals such as bunnies, guinea pigs, and more. Volunteers must be over 14 years old to volunteer with our cats/pocket pets. Please look at our Youth Volunteer Program for younger ages. Sign up here.
Would you like to help our shelter dogs get out of their kennels, all while enjoying some canine bonding time and sharing some great exercise endorphins? We need dog volunteers to help our shelter kids get some much-needed outdoor enrichment time. Dog volunteers start with enrichment activities in shelter and after 10hrs they can take dogs out on our trail system! Volunteers must be over 16 years old to volunteer with our dogs. Sign up here.
CA Humane’s Youth Volunteer Program extends to youth aged 10-13 and gives them the opportunity to gain skills working with our in-shelter cats, doing laundry, and other various tasks! Youth Volunteers are supported by a parent or guardian and must be accompanied by them while volunteering. Cat Cuddling includes brushing, playing, petting, and giving the cats treats. This is a great opportunity for our cats in shelter to become confident with people and gain the skills that will help them adjust to their fur-ever homes!

CA Humane is a charity, non-profit organization and relies on donations/fundraisers to make up the money that will keep the shelter running throughout the year. Volunteers are key for these events to occur as we do not have enough staff and want them to focus on our in-shelter animals. These events vary and so do the volunteer requirements. If you would like to be added to an email list to know when these are occurring, please email volunteer@cahumane.com
Is your company looking to give back to the community while team building? Email volunteer@cahumane.com to book a time to come in and volunteer! This will include a short presentation about CA Humane, cat enrichment, dog enrichment, and some cleaning tasks such as laundry or sweeping. We recommend coming into the shelter for 2 hours so that your team has enough time to complete all areas. CA Humane looks forward to hosting your team!
