We’d like to introduce you to Gaynette! Gaynette has been a registered Dental Assistant for 42 years in Central Alberta, but her love for animals has been lifelong.
She and her husband adopted their first dog, Teddy, from the Central Alberta Humane Society in 1985 and cared for him until he was very old. Over the years, Gaynette and her family fostered and rescued many others, including Duke, a German Shepherd, and Sparky, a Husky mix from a kennel in Innisfail. Sparky was full of energy and a master escape artist. Gaynette walked him faithfully, sometimes up to 50 km a week! Yet he always loved to run free. Though Sparky has been gone for seven years, Gaynette says she still misses him every single day. While Sparky was with them, they also fostered Knuckles, an English Bulldog, who ended up becoming part of the family too.
Today, living in a condo where pets aren’t allowed, Gaynette hasn’t stopped walking. She now gets to spend time walking her son’s 100 lb Staffordshire mix, a rescue himself.
As Gaynette says:
“I thought I might as well put all the miles I walk to good use. It was always in the back of my mind to volunteer with animals and now I have the time and energy to do it. It is a truly rewarding experience. I love each of them and am so happy and sad when they get to find a new home.”
We are so grateful to Gaynette for giving her time, her love, and her miles to help animals in our care. Thank you for being part of our CA Humane family!
