June Volunteer of the Month

This is Amy, Volunteer of the Month for the month of June.

Amy: It has been such a pleasure to work alongside the Central Alberta Humane Society, to raise funds and support the efforts of all staff and volunteers at the shelter as they assist animals in need. Unable to have children of our own, my husband and I quickly fell in love with being fur-parents, and now, 14 years after we had our first dog, we have 2 cocker spaniels that we treat like our children. They are our everything…as the saying goes “I work hard so my dogs can have a better life”! Hearing about the stories of animals being neglected or abandoned has always gripped my heart and that’s what drives me to volunteer my time for this great cause. I may not have a lot of money to donate, but I can always use my time and talents to better the world around me. Last Christmas 2022, I assisted CAHS for the first time with their annual Christmas Pet Portraits. The event was very rewarding, and I will continue to assist them with it, for as long as possible. To further use my photography skills throughout the remainder of the year, I have looked for other opportunities to raise funds. Recently, we did the Black & White Portrait Sessions and raised over $2600. The staff are great to work with, as they help me get the animals’ attention towards the camera. And the clients I get to meet are even more special to meet and chat with. I look forward to seeing repeat clients at each event we hold. I encourage anyone who has a couple extra hours in their month to consider volunteering – it’s good for your soul and your community! Thanks so much for this honor of being Volunteer of the Month!
