Emergency Boarding

The primary mission of the Emergency Boarding Program is to enhance human well-being and help meet the basic human needs of all people, with particular attention to the needs and empowerment of people who are vulnerable, oppressed, hospitalized, and living in poverty.

Program Details:

The Specialty Program provides short-term housing at no charge for animals belonging to individuals in crisis.

Program Qualifications

Individuals requiring access to the Specialty Program must be referred by or verified by a recognized service agency or professional, such as a Social Worker (RSW/BSW/MSW), Police Officer, or Crisis Intervention Worker. Admittance to the program is considered only after all criteria have been met, and is granted at the discretion of the staff Social Worker or Animal Care Manager.

Program Details

  • Length of stay is 21 days. Extension of one week can be granted at the discretion of CA Humane.
  • Proof of ownership, vaccination history, health care documentation, and ID are required.
  • The client is required to sign the following documents:  Specialty Animal Agreement, Spay/Neuter consent form, Vaccination & De-worming consent, Retrieval of Veterinary Documents, Dog Personality Profile and/or Cat Personality Profile and Specialty Animal Release.
  • Vaccinations and De-worming is provided, if required.
  • Animal may be fostered with qualified foster volunteer.
  • Animal provided with daily food, water, socialization, exercise and preventive care 
  • Visitation is not permitted, however the owner can call to check on status of the animal
  • Strictly confidential - client anonymity is guaranteed
