Octavia's Adoption Story
Its a bit of a read, but I promise its worth it.
We unexpectedly lost our kitten about a year or so ago, and we'd been back and forth about the idea of getting a new cat; after wounds healed and hearts were ready to love another furry friend. Anyways, we put in an application on different cat with a rescue organization, and it didnt work out, she was adopted in the time it took to have our application processed. No worries, not meant to be; right? We then come down with a giant sickness, i mean huge - took the whole house down for a week, but while we were home we found Octavia online and something about her was magnetic to me. I emailed right away saying we'd love to come look at her, and as soon as we were healthy enough in we went.
Fast forward to that first meeting, the person working the counter was busy so we were peeking around in the rooms, one room was straight black cats (nothing against them, but our late kitten was a black cat and the wounds just couldnt withstand that), the other room was closed to prevent sickness (hmm, another sign?) and the fat cat room was locked. Peek through the window and we dont see her anywhere. We ended up chatting with a volunteer who told us Octavia should be in the fat cat room, so we grabbed the key and in we went. Im not exaggerating, she bolted from wherever she was hiding to present herself to us faster than I could get the key out of the door knob. Like, "Hello Family, its me - im right here!" Signed, sealed - delivered. The deals done, let the kiddos hang out for a moment more with her and begin the adoption process.
Longest two days ever waiting to return to go through the process and pick her up (which was a breeze by the way); bring her home for the fun part. Introducing her to our 100 lb lab who has ZERO boundaries and no respect for personal space. First interactions were WAY better than i thought they would be.
Octavia stayed in the basement with our kids for the first 24 hours as everytime she ventured the dog would get excited and scare her off, so we sent the dog outside one day, brought her up - let her sniff around and let the dog in. Tails poofed, some hisses came his way, but they are all but inseperabale now.
This vocal, blanket suckling girl is perfect for our not so little family, right down to her name - the eighth member to the Griffith clan. Welcome home sweet girl.
